Welcome to KOD 2018


The 10th International Symposium on Machine and Industrial Design in Mechanical Engineering (KOD 2018) will be held in University of Novi Sad, Faculty of Technical Sciences in Novi Sad, Serbia on June 6-8 2018. The objective of KOD 2018 is to review the current state of knowledge and present the scope of scientific research and innovation in the field of mechanical engineering design, product developing and management.

The KOD 2018 papers will be peer reviewed by two reviewers. The registered and presented papers will be published online with open-access in a volume of IOP Conference Series: Materials Science and Engineering indexed in major international databases: Ei Compendex, Scopus, Thomson Reuters / Clarivate Analytics (WoS), Inspec, et al. The symposium will attempt to define the directions of further development in mechanical engineering. The leading professors in this field from this region will be engaged to take introductory lectures and give us their view of this issue.

The basic goals of this symposium are:

Participants of symposium KOD 2018 contributed to the understanding of design building relationships across multidisciplinary design domains including engineering and product development, innovation, management, complexity, human behavior and system design. The symposium provides opportunities for the delegates to exchange new ideas and application experiences face to face, to establish business or research relations and to find global partners for future collaboration.

Professor DSc. PhD. Eng. Lucian TUDOSE

Dr. Lucian Tudose is a Professor of Machine Elements for the Technical University of Cluj-Napoca, Romania, Faculty of Machine Building, Department of Mechanical System Engineering since 2003. From 2015 he holds the position of Professor for the Doctoral School of the same University. In 2010, he started a collaboration with RKB Bearing Industries, an important rolling bearing manufacturer located in Switzerland, and from 2013 he is Head of Advanced Calculation and Optimization Department of this group.
Since 1998 his main field of interest is the research of ways to improve the design and development of complex engineering systems by using optimization techniques with Evolutionary Algorithms. Greater interest was given to the optimal design of so-called heterogeneous systems (systems that combine several subsystems from different engineering domains), when attention is directed to relationships between components, rather than to detailed design of individual components.

In the last decade, his main research domain becomes the optimal design of rolling bearing and rolling bearing arrangements, mainly in uncertain manufacturing, mounting and working conditions. Summarizing his last works concretized in:
• Mono- and multi-objective optimization of cylindrical, spherical, and tapered roller bearing design. The objective functions used were the basic dynamic load rating, the minimum thickness of the elastohydrodynamic lubricant film between the bearing rolling bodies and raceways, and, in the case of the tapered roller bearings, the expected bearing life.
• Optimal design of the profile of the cylindrical rollers. Using the real pressure distribution between the roller and raceway, Kriging technique for interpolation, and an original Evolutionary Algorithm the optimal roller profile – the profile for which the maximum pressure pick is minimal – was identified.
• Systemic approach in life maximization of ball and roller bearing arrangements. Considering the system of bearings and shaft the loads on the rolling bearings were calculated in an original manner (the number of non-linear equation was significantly reduced, and always the same whatever is the shaft discretization). The goal was the identification of the bench clearance/interference of the bearing arrangement which maximizes the bearing life arrangement. When the working conditions were considered governed by uncertainty (in terms of fits and working temperature) the optimal bench clearance/interference of the bearing arrangement was obtained as an interval.

Professor Tudose was Chairman at 6 and member of the International Scientific Committee at 4 International Scientific Conferences, respectively. He published 12 books (in Romanian) and 135 papers in national and international journals, and ran as director 10 national research projects and had been involved in 6 international grants. He owns 3 national patents, is member of several international and national scientific associations (SAE, ART, ROAMET, etc.), and is reviewer for 4 international scientific journals: Evolutionary Computation, International Journal of Mechanics and Materials in Design, Structural and Multidisciplinary Optimization, and Mechanism and Machine Theory.


Professor DSc. PhD. MSc. Eng. Stanislaw LEGUTKO, prof. h.c.

Main research interests are technology and exploitation of cutting tools, gears teeth technology, exploitation of machines and industrial logistics. Most important research concerns adhesive wear of cutting tools. In the last period his interests are guided into an exploitation and technological problems of cutting tools for High Speed Cutting (HSC) especially gears teeth generation, computer aided process planning (CAPP) of cutting tools and machine parts, nanotechnology, rapid prototyping, rapid tooling and rapid manufacturing. He is an author or co-author of more than 500 published research works (8 monographic books, 8 student’s books and a handbook). He was a secretary of Commission of Mechanical Engineering – Polish Academy of Sciences division in Poznan and a chairman of Commission of Mechanical Engineering at Poznan Society of Science Friends.

The official language of the Symposium is English.

1. SHORT ABSTRACT SUBMISSION

For uploading the short abstract please follow the procedure:

• Upload the short abstract, as DOC or DOCX file.
Deadline February 10th, 2018

The short abstract presents the essence of the paper and should not exceed 200 words. It briefly summarises the background, aim or purpose of research, method used, results/findings and conclusions of the paper. We also recommend using keywords in order to identify the contents of the papers.

2. PAPER SUBMISSION

For uploading the paper please follow the procedure:
• Open the EasyChair account at EasyChair platform;
• Upload the paper, as PDF file.
Deadline March 15th, 2018

Authors have to submit high-resolution PDF file with all fonts embedded, according to the KOD 2018-IOPconf_instructions.

Authors, who have papers included in the Symposium Program, are kindly invited to submit until 15.03.2017 the full version of their papers as PDF file, having at least 6 but no more than 10 pages.

The number of papers is limited. One person can sign three papers at the most, but only one paper as the first author.

Authors must adhere to the symposium written paper format. Please, when preparing the paper, use the template that can be downloaded here: KOD 2018-paper template.
Papers uploaded after the deadline will not be accepted at the symposium.

Symposium Fee


The symposium fee per each paper is 120 EUR.
It includes: publication of one paper in IOP Conference Series, conference materials, entrance to all conference sections and for one person welcome drink, coffee breaks and symposium banquet.
